Well, Adam's never been as good as a podcasting guy as he is as a writer and organizer. I guess I found it a bit irritating at first, too, but once I got into the mood I found myself laughing along. Although his view was certainly not a balanced one, I think he said some things to say about iWork that needed saying. Even if you don't agree that Apple is to blame, it's quite true that we're not seeing anything terribly innovative on that front, and things haven't really moved terribly far along in word processing since WordPerfect 3.1.

Chuck,
You should have disconnected AA's mike and sent him off to sober up or come down from the drugs. The worst show ever! I was embarrassed for you and the other guest. AA was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. He (and you) should realize that people actually listen to your podcast. Angst obviously doesn't have any regard or respect for himself, you, other guests, or the listening audience. I guess someone along his path of self destruction told him it was cute to act like an a**hole. I for one will not be listening to any more podcasts that involve him.

Chuck, that was the worst of your podcasts so far - and not your fault. The audio was bad, you were probably sharing a microphone in a room with a lot of echo, and Adams constant, silly giggling, made it hard to hear you as you were not allowed to finish your sentences.

Negative - i respect that Adam has other needs that the average consumer, so that is OK, but there were lots of words and not much of a message embedded.

After listening to quite a number of your podcasts, I really feel you need to look for alternative guest for a number of future shows.

Signal to noise ratio :-) - you did bring that point up in the show notes.

Well, enough of the critique , otherwise keep up the good work

Regards
Michael

Someone please inform Adam that it's perfectly possible to freeze headers and footers in Numbers, at least in '09.

Perhaps a little more time actually investigating the software, and a little less time being bigoted about it Adam ?

I have just been listening to your podcast with the Northeast Ohio Apple Corps.

You came to a section about switchers and I was rather annoyed when windows users or switchers were reffered to as impatient! I can remember getting my first Mac Mini just over a year ago and I loved it, now I'm no slouch as a computer user but the right click thing that was mentioned should be one that IS POINTED OUT to switchers especially if they are buying a MAc from an Apple Store, it IS NOT OBVIOUS for the average switcher, equally sitting in front of a keyboard thinking where on earth is the # key can be really annoying :-)
So please don't refer to switchers or windows switchers as impatient, as the ad says they "just want it to work".

Keep up the great podcasts.

Chuck,

I really enjoyed this episode of MacNotables. It was great to hear you, Adam, and Tonya discuss the wide variety of subjects, and to see the three of you reacting to each other was a real treat.

It might have been a lot of work, but for me, your hard work paid off.

Please consider doing more of these video podcasts.

It's worth pointing out the following to balance Bob LeVitus's review:

1) The previous 2 revisions of MacBook Pro also used LED backlighting - it's not a unique feature of the new model;
2) If the battery life of the new model appeared to match or better that of his old model, it *might* have been due to him comparing a brand new vs. used battery. Macworld's review of the new model shows it has a slightly lower battery life compared with the previous generation;
3) The Nvidia 9600 is faster than the previous model's 8600, but the more energy efficient 9400 definitely is not. It would be good to know exactly which MacBook Pro model Bob currently uses because it doesn't sound like the previous model with the 8600, which should have been able to play games pretty well.

I recently started listening to the MacNotables podcast and I really enjoy them.
I especially found this one useful. I've been looking for something like Visual Hub and I bought it and it works great! I really like that one can put several videos onto one DVD with this. And it converts just about anything into an iPod format.
Thanks for a great podcast.

I have had DirecWay before Hughes Electric changed the name of the dish. In general it has worked fine except in bad weather conditions such as snow, heavy rain. A technician recommended spraying the dish with Pam once or twice a year. Snow can be brushed off. But if the outside cables become frayed, water can enter and short the system. That happened to me and it took several weeks and four visits by installer before the cable was replaced.
A local radio station started streaming its broadcast, which works much better than FM reception which can bounce off surrounding mountains. There is some fluctuation in volume which may be due to how the radio station streams the broadcast. Downloading podcasts works fine. Uploading to a web site worked well.
I would appreciate more comments on how Skype works with satellite. I could dial up and hear the person at the other end, but I could not be heard or my words were garbled.

Hi, Great show, lots of interesting information.

You talked about bridging an 802.11g and 802.11n network so that the 11n network isn't slowed down. I wonder if you can advise me on my setup?

I use a Netgear DG824G wireless ADSL modem/router to provide 802.11b & g to a MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini and an Airport Express which is connected to an Apple iPodHiFi. I'd like to create two networks as you described so that my MacBook Pro can receive data at 802.11n speeds. If I buy the new Airport Extreme Base Station, can I simply plug it into one of the ethernet ports on the back of the Netgear modem/router in order to create two networks? Or is there another method that would work?

Keep up the good work!

Hi Ted, Just listed to your pod cast about your new N base station, I enjoyed hearing your experiences. Why is everyone so excited about 802.11N, isnt 802.11g faster than most cable modems can download anyway. if that is true unless you are transfering large files on your home network, or your apple tv, is there really any reason to upgrade?

Is apple updating the firmware on your extreme card, ir something in the mac itself? Might just buying a new extreme card work with the n netework.

You mentioned that people were out of luck who had pre-core duo 2 macs, I imagine some second party n card might work, if you have an express or pci/mcia side slot in your macbook pro or powerbook. I know I use a g card on an early powerbook.

thanks

Great podcast, lots of good information!

You talked about bridging a new 802.11n Base Station with an older 802.11bg BS to create two wireless networks so that the 11n wouldn't be slowed down by the presence of 11g devices. I'm wondering how I could do something similar.

My small wireless network at present consists of a NetGear DG824G ADSL Modem/Wireless Router which provides 802.11g to a MacBookPro, a Mac Mini and an Apple Airport Express connected to an iPodHiFi. Can I simply plug in an 802.11n Base Station into one of the ethernet ports of the DG824G to create a second network for the MacBookPro, and if so how do I create the bridge? Or is the solution more complex?

Any advice or recommendations gratefully received!

Thanks, Chuck! You helped me find it. But actually the one Tonya referred to is another product the company makes called SyncTogether. It's not actually out yet. But it looks like it could provide a replacement for .Mac service if you only use .Mac for syncing. I wonder if it'll also let you sync Yojimbo items and other 3rd party applications that have added .Mac functionality to their software. Definitely a product that'll I'll be keeping my eye on.

In this show, Tonya Engst mentions a syncing program. Did anyone get the name and/or website for it? It sounds interesting, I'd like to find out more about it.

Good show. However, I would like to strongly disagree with Adam's assessment of the NIke+iPod sport kit. Being a "serious runner" -- that is, a 2-3 marathons per year sort of runner -- I will attest to the reliability of the kit to the extent that I have used it. I've had it for about 4 months now, and have logged well over 400 miles on it. I have checked its accuracy both with GPS and my car's odometer, and have found it to perform rather well. Most important, it is consistent -- every time I use it, I hit the same landmarks at the same distance. I'm not sure how accurate one need a pedometer to be, but I have had more expensive pieces of running electronics that have performed far worse than Nike+iPod.
